The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) announces a call for entries for ART214, a City-wide juried exhibition that will be presented during Dallas Arts Month in 2018.

Dallas Arts Month, first launched by Mayor Mike Rawlings as Dallas Arts Week in 2013, is a celebration of Dallas arts, held annually in the month of April. Arts Month is designed to build awareness and appreciation for the work of Dallas artists and organizations and foster creative learning and activity throughout the city.

For more information about Dallas Arts Month, visit

Four OCA facilities, the Bath House Cultural Center, the Latino Cultural Center, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center and the South Dallas Cultural Center, are joining forces to organize a multi-venue juried exhibition that will showcase the works of artists who live in Dallas and in the Greater North Texas region.

ART214 is a four-section collaborative exhibition that gives the citizens of Dallas an opportunity to discover and enjoy the work of talented local and regional visual artists.  Each of the partnering cultural center brings its own audiences, artists, communities and history.  By scheduling connected dates to display a different section of the show at each center, as if presenting “four chapters of the same book,” the ART214 exhibition creates a unique opportunity for the public to visit all the centers during Dallas Arts Month, while also promoting collaboration and cross-pollination of artists and audiences.

To learn more about the participating cultural centers, visit the website of the Office of Cultural Affairs at and click on the Cultural Venues link.

Art in all media created in the last three years will be accepted from artists who currenly live in the DFW and Greater North Texas region. All concepts and subject matter are welcome. All art should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. Artists whose work requires the use of electronic equipment (DVD players, projectors, computers, etc.) must provide their own equipment.

There are no restrictions on the size of the artwork, but bear in mind that artists are responsible for the transportation of their works and their prompt removal after the show closes. If the scale or complexity of a work of art presents a difficulty, some of the centers will require installation assistance by the artists.

All the ART214 entries will be carefully reviewed by a panel of four esteemed art professionals from the DFW area.  The Jurors will be in charge of selecting the artwork that will be featured in the four-section exhibition displayed in the galleries of the participating venues.  After the art has been selected, an independent Curator will be responsible for choosing the location of each work of art and for curating each section of the collective exhibition.

Although this is a joint exhibition, each participating cultural center will display a different show featuring the chosen artwork that is assigned to each gallery by the Curator. Because artists can enter up to two entries for consideration, they will have the potential of showing their selected work in one or two different venues.

The Four Jurors and Curator for the ART214 exhibition are:

ELIZABETH MELLOTT - Professor of photography at Collin College and visual artist
TORI PHILLIPS – Arts Administrator, Artist
JIM BURTON - Senior Lecturer of Drawing and Painting at the University of North Texas
ARTHUR PEÑA - Visiting Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting, University of North Texas

Curator: CHRISTINA ESTRELLA RIGGS - Ceramics and Art Teacher, Bryan Adam High School Leadership Academy

An entry fee is not required. The Jurors will review photographs of completed artwork and will select pieces for the exhibition.  Unfinished artwork will not be reviewed.

Artists may submit up to two works of art for consideration.  The exhibition organizers will not accept files submitted on CDs, removable memory sticks, or by e-mail.  All the artwork submitted and exhibited in the ART214 exhibition must be completely the applicant’s original idea and creation.  Art that infringes somebody else’s intellectual property rights will be disqualified and removed from the exhibition.
